The Legal Framework in Brief
Ghana’s Data Protection Act sets the principles for handling personal data: accountability, lawfulness, specification of purpose, compatibility of further processing, quality of information, openness, data security safeguards and data subject participation. The last principle is the source of the rights described below. The Data Protection Commission supervises compliance and handles complaints.
BetBooker is the controller of data collected through the website, through betbooker login and through the betbooker app. Where a payment partner or a verification service processes data for us, we remain responsible for how it is used, and we pass your request on to them when necessary.
The Rights You Hold
The Right to Know What We Hold
You may ask whether BetBooker processes personal data about you and, if it does, request a description and a copy of it. A full answer contains your profile details, verification status, login history, betting and gameplay history, transaction records, support conversations and your consent settings. It also names the categories of recipients and the purposes of the processing.
The Right to Correction
If a detail is wrong, outdated or incomplete, you may ask us to change it. Examples are a misspelled surname, a phone number that is no longer in use or a wrong wallet name. Simple changes can be made in the account settings. Changes to data that appears on a verification document require new evidence, such as an updated identity card.
The Right to Deletion
You may ask us to delete data that is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected for, or that we process without a valid basis. Deletion has limits. We cannot remove identity files and transaction records that the law obliges us to keep for at least five years, and we cannot erase the record of a self-exclusion that protects you. Data outside these categories, such as optional profile fields, marketing preferences and old chat copies, can be removed.
The Right to Object
You may object to processing that relies on our legitimate interest and to direct marketing. For marketing, an objection is final: we stop sending messages and keep only the fact of your objection, so that you are not contacted again by mistake. For other processing, we assess the objection and stop unless we can show a compelling reason, such as fraud prevention or a legal duty.
The Right to Restrict Processing
While we verify a disputed fact, for example the accuracy of a name, you may ask us to pause the processing of the disputed data. During the pause we store the data without using it, except for the protection of legal claims or to meet legal duties.
The Right to Withdraw Consent
Where we process data on the basis of your consent, such as optional cookies or promotional messages, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the legality of what happened before. It also does not stop the processing that we carry out for other reasons, such as operating the account.
The Right to a Human Decision
Some decisions are supported by software, for example fraud scoring and bonus eligibility. If a decision significantly affects you, such as an account restriction, you may ask that a staff member reviews it and may explain your position.
How to Make a Request: Step by Step
- Choose the right channel. Many changes are quicker in the account settings. For anything else, open the contact page of the website and select the data protection topic.
- Identify yourself. Write from the email address registered with the account, or include your username and the last digits of your phone number. We do this so that no one can obtain your data by impersonating you.
- State what you want. Name the right you are using and describe the data concerned. A request such as “send me a copy of my transaction history from January to June” is easier to answer than a general complaint.
- Add evidence where needed. For a correction, attach the document that shows the right information.
- Keep the reference. You receive a case number. Quote it in any follow-up message.
You do not need to give a reason for an access or objection request, and you do not pay a fee for a reasonable request. We may charge a fair administrative fee or refuse a request that is clearly repeated or excessive, and we explain the decision in writing.
What Happens After Your Request
| Step | What we do | Typical timing |
|---|---|---|
| Acknowledgement | Confirm receipt and give a case number | Within 3 business days |
| Identity check | Compare your details and, if needed, ask for a document | 1 to 5 business days |
| Search | Collect the data from all systems and partners | Up to 15 days |
| Review | Remove information about other people and legally privileged material | Up to 5 days |
| Answer | Send the data or explain the outcome | Within 30 days of the request |
Complex requests may take longer. If that happens, we write to you before the deadline, explain why and give a new date.
What Your Data Copy Looks Like
We send data in a structured file that you can open on a phone or computer, such as a spreadsheet or a PDF, through a secure download link that expires after a short time. The link is sent to the email address on the account, and the password for the file is sent to your phone, so that the two parts do not travel together. The copy also includes a short explanation of the fields so that you can understand the codes in the transaction list.
When We May Decline a Request
We may refuse all or part of a request when:
- we cannot confirm your identity;
- the data concerns another person and sharing it would breach their privacy;
- a law requires us to keep the data, for example an anti-money laundering record;
- the request is clearly unfounded or repeated without a new reason;
- an investigation or a legal claim would be harmed by the disclosure.
In each case you receive a written explanation and information about your option to complain.
Requests Made on Behalf of Another Person
A lawyer, a family member or another representative may act for you if you give written authority and both of you identify yourselves. For a player who has died, a close relative or the executor of the estate may ask for the closure of the account and the release of the balance, and we request a death certificate and proof of the relationship. For a minor whose data was submitted by mistake, a parent or guardian may ask us to delete the data and close the account.
Your Rights Connected to Responsible Gambling
Data about limits, time-outs and self-exclusion is kept so that these protections work. You may ask to see the history of the limits you set. A request to delete your account does not remove an active self-exclusion. Players who wish to end a self-exclusion early cannot do so by exercising a data right, because the exclusion exists to protect their wellbeing, and the terms describe how and when it can be lifted.
If You Are Not Satisfied
First, reply to our answer and explain which part you disagree with. A senior member of the data protection team reviews such a message and replies within 14 days. If the outcome is still unsatisfactory, you may lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana, which can investigate the matter and issue directions. You also keep the right to seek a remedy through the courts of Ghana.
Examples From Practice
A player noticed that the surname on the account had one letter missing and that the withdrawal was waiting for a name check. He sent a correction request with a photo of his Ghana Card, BetBooker updated the profile after a manual comparison and the payout was released the next business day.
Another player wished to stop receiving promotions without closing the account. She switched off the promotional channels in the settings, and the system recorded the choice with the date. No further offers arrived, while confirmations of her deposits and withdrawals continued as before.
A third player asked for the deletion of all data after a break from betting. BetBooker closed the account, removed optional profile fields and chat copies, and explained in writing which records had to remain in restricted storage for five years. The player also received a list of the dates on which those records would be destroyed.
Practical Tips for Players
- Download your history before you close an account, if you want to keep it for your records.
- Ask for correction of a name or date of birth before you request a withdrawal, since a mismatch can delay payment.
- Use the preferences centre to manage promotional messages, which is faster than an objection by letter.
- Keep copies of your requests and our replies.
- Think about the consequences of deletion. Once your account and balance are removed, they cannot be restored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it free to get a copy of my data?
Yes, for a reasonable request. A fee may apply only to requests that are clearly excessive or repeated.
Can I delete my betbooker casino history while keeping the account?
Gameplay and transaction records must stay for audit and legal reasons, so they cannot be deleted while the account is open or during the retention period afterwards.
How do I stop promotional messages quickly?
Use the unsubscribe link in any message or switch off promotions in the account settings. Both take effect within a few days.
Will asking for my data affect my account?
No. A request never leads to a penalty, a restriction or a loss of bonuses.
What if I cannot sign in with betbooker login but need my data?
Write through the contact page, give the details that identify you and we will verify your identity by another method.
Does BetBooker Ghana answer requests in languages other than English?
Requests in English are processed fastest, and we will try to help players who write in a different language by using translation tools and clear templates.
